Varicolor Opaque is a solvent base cat- alyzed pigmented effect coating designed to provide optimum durability and appearance in an air dry coating. Varicolor Opaque is a unique product that will show a beautiful dis- play of color through a spectrum of hues. The observed color is dependent on the direction of lighting and the location of the viewer. Varicolor Opaque will provide lacquer-like dry time and good initial hardness. This coating complies with most air quality regulations, and will be at or under 2.8 lbs/gal VOC when mixed. Pot life ranges from 8 to 24 hours.

These qualities make it ideal for production work, work in dusty environments, and where a quick dry time is needed.

Directions for Use: Preparation

Surface to be coated must be clean, dry and free of oil or grease. Ambient temperature must be above 50F at application. VariColor Opaque can be applied successfully over variety a of primers or surfacers. 2K Epoxies are best for adhesion and for

bonding with Varicolor, however, any system that works well with Acrylic Urethane topcoats are suitable.
Wet: 3-4 mils
Dry: .5-1.5 mils

Directions for Use: Application

Mixing: Mix six parts of Varicolor Opaquewithone part Urethane Part B. Thin catalyzed mix- ture one to one with #11636 Exempt Reducer, or equivelant. #11636 Reducer is VOC exempt, therefore the VOC of the coating will not be affected by its addition. If conventional thinner is used, the VOC will be altered, and the coating will no longer be classified as exempt.

Spray: Use 40-50 psi. Cover piece with one double wet coat, making sure not to produce a misty or dry spray appearance. Varicolor builds quickly, so if more depth is required allow 1- 2 minutes flash-off before applying further coats.

Top Coat: VCO dries to a semi gloss or flat finish. If a gloss finish is required, topcoat with #12667 Gloss Uralac, or equivelant. Since VCO is a 2K Urethane, it should be topcoated the same day it is applied. If this is not practical, allow at least 12 hours of drytime, then scuff sand and topcoat. Scuff sanding will prevent outgassing of the VCO Urethane.

Curing: After a 15 minute flash off, coated parts may be forced dried at 140-194 degrees F for 10 to 30 minutes. Application should take place with relative humidity under 70%. Allow a minimum of 24 hours before assembly or packaging. Exact dry time should be evaluated based on your process.

Protective Equipment

Eyes: Safety glasses
Skin: Neoprene rubber gloves
Respiratory: NIOSH approved respirator for organic vapor
For long term exposure, use Supplied Air Respirator
In case of fire: Use foam, dry chemical, CO2, water or spray fog.
Grounding: When transferring, fill stem and container must be grounded and bonded.

Supplied air respirators are recommended for long term exposure. Production equipment must be cleaned daily to prevent build up and fouling from hardened coating. Only mix as much material as will be used in any eight hour shift. If used over uncatalyzed base coats, lifting may occur when applying a second coat the following day or when doing touch up.

Keep away from heat, sparks, and flames. USE WITH ADEQUATE VENTILATION. Avoid prolonged or repeated contact with skin. Avoid prolonged breathing of vapor or spray mist. Do not take internally. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Before smoking or eating and after using, cleanse hands thoroughly. Keep container closed when not in use.

Effects of Overexposure:
Prolonged use may cause mild irritation to eyes.

Skin Contact:
Can cause irritation, may be absorbed through the skin and cause defatting.

May cause respiratory irritation, dizziness and drowsiness.
